Dr. Walsh has written and directed 5 award-winning feature documentaries. Her work has been theatrically released and broadcast internationally on channels such as ARTE, Al-Jazeera, CBC, Netflix and others. Walsh’s films have screened in more than 100 festivals globally such as IDFA, Hot Docs, CPH:DOX, DOC NYC, and many others. As a theorist, Walsh is interested in the social construction of power and its contestations, crossing a range of disciplines and methodologies. From 2013 to 2016, Walsh was a faculty member at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. She taught and researched diverse practices in the city, local social movements, and documentary production in Hong Kong. Walsh also spent time filming, researching, and participating in the Umbrella Movement, during which time she made the short documentary Under the Umbrella (2014). A few years later, she followed with the 360-video work Disappearance: Hong Kong Stories (2018), around disappearing sites of personal significance to artists, activists, and intellectuals in Hong Kong. She is a 2020 Guggenheim Fellow and a Peter Wall Scholar. Her most recent film is The Gig is Up (2021), and she is currently completing a new edited book and monograph.
