Dr. Wang teaches Mandarin Chinese language courses at UBC and conducts research on, among other topics, the teaching and learning of Chinese as a foreign language. In particular, she is interested in questions relating to Cantonese speakers’ acquisition of Mandarin and Mandarin speakers’ acquisition of Cantonese. She is also interested in the phonological system of Cantonese and the difference between that of Cantonese and Mandarin. Experienced in community-based learning and teaching, Dr. Wang hopes to engage the large local Cantonese population in the teaching and learning at UBC.
